To Pursue or Not to Pursue?

July 19th, 2007

Do I tend to pursue people or do I tend to wait for people to pursue me?  This not something people ask themselves very often because it doesn’t seem to be a very important question.  I on the other hand feel it has significant value and encourage others who claim to be a follower of Christ to ponder this question regularly.  Why you ask?

Well, as a follower of Christ you are called to be a pursuer of people.  Unfortunately too many of us ignore this command to “Go!  There are leaders among us who have magnetic personalities that people are just naturally drawn to and others who are a bit more introverted (like me) that tend to withdraw from people unless specifically sought after.  Nothing wrong in itself in either case unless the leader uses it as an excuse to not pursue others.  We are not commanded to “Wait till they come.  We are told to “Go!

Also, when you pursue other lives, just remember, its about their life, not yours.  If those you pursue in turn pursue you, that’s one thing, but don’t pursue people so you can talk about yourself or your world.  We are to listen with our two ears (if you have two) and share hope and the Good News with our one mouth.

Face it, everyone wants to be pursued.  Where would you be if Christ hadn’t pursued you?  We are to love God and love others, so what better way to show your love then by pursuing them.  Think about it?
